Bio
There is a lot of history on this usually busy trail. Each area of the hike has its own tale. The trail itself follows the coastline through spruce woods and along some pretty steep edges of cliffs. You are lead through Gun Landing Cove, Brook Landing Cove, around Lorraine Head all the way to Big Lorraine. Retrace your steps to return.
Directions
The trailhead is located in the parking lot by the lighthouse in Louisbourg.

It’s about 4hr walking time to go all the way. The trafficked part aka the tourist loop is gravelled and -almost-wheelchair accessible, 45min roundtrip walk from lighthouse. But it gets better and better and unpopulated the farther you go. Extremely Tolkienesque. After Lorraine Head and some rocks rambling and near-bushwhacking, you get to the Secret Hidden Beach (with actual sand) which I will probably get murdered for talking about. It is the best. You can park a bike or a shuttle vehicle (limited parking room, small vehicle) at the Big Lorraine end first if you want to avoid the turn-around and return hike late in day. Directions to Big Lorraine end: 1 km on Main-aDieu Hwy off 22, road on right with “protected area signage”, 1.4 km to trailhead. Road rough but passable, just don’t take an RV. Respect the private cottages nearby.
As of July 2023, this trail is still closed after sustaining heavy storm damage in 2022.
