Bio
This hike climbs the very steep Roberts Mountain to a treeless peak with an unbelievable 360 view. It is short but quite mighty due to its steepness. The trail starts off modest enough following an old access road leading you through a field and into the forest. When you reach the end of this road and make a left turn onto the second leg of the trail, the hike gets progressively steeper and steeper until you reach the open field section. From there it is a really steep climb to the top. You can wander freely on top before retracing your steps to return. The trail is on private property. Please treat it with respect.
Directions
From the park entrance in Cheticamp drive ~32 km's north to Pleasant Bay. Turn left onto Red River Road and drive another 2.5 km's until you reach the school. Park in the school parking lot if school is not in session, else park along the narrow road. The hike starts on the grass road located at the unused junction about 4 driveways back in the direction you drove in from the school. There is red trail tape marking the start as of July 2014.

Roberts Mountain, off Red River Road near Pleasant Bay, just outside the CBH National Park is a fairly short hike but it gets very steep and remains that way to the top, at a small tower on a bare peak with a 360 panoramic view overlooking the ocean, the village of Pleasant Bay and the MacIntosh Brook picnic area. The trail is well kept, no debris or garbage (empty bottles, wrappings or cigarette butts) and marked with red ribbons on trees along the way. The sunset was excellent, the view of the mountains at back and of the ocean in all other directions was second to none. I must caution the avid hiker that it is challenging enough for a senior.
Hiked it July 13, 2023. It is no longer maintained and the initial 500m or so is through dense undergrowth of wild rose bush and grass. Once through the field and in the tree line it opens up to a narrow road. A few downed trees along the way. Higher up is gravel on a steep slope. Challenging but still doable by 4 senior hikers. Enjoyed the views from the top.
